Product details
This Stauer gold-plated Graves ’33 Watch is a faithful reproduction of probably the most exclusive - and certainly one of the most expensive - watches ever made. The original - dubbed the "Super complication" - was commissioned by banking millionaire, Henry Graves. Delivered by Patek Philippe in 1933, it took more than five years to produce, and only one was ever made. Although a little less rare, this version illustrates what all the excitement was about. The classic white face, adorned with Roman numerals, features four smaller dials, featuring a 24-hour clock with sun and moon graphics, day, date and month.
The automatic, selfwinding movement means no batteries are required, while the precision-engineered mechanism owes its accuracy to 27 ruby bearings. Water resistant to five atmospheres, the gold-fused case is finished with an elegant "snakeskin" leather strap. Auctioned at Sotheby’s in 1999, the original went for a then record $11 million; you’ll be pleased to hear this reproduction is a lot more affordable.
