Sloe (prunus spinosa) – Ideal as hedging or part of a wildlife-friendly garden this large shrub or small tree, with stiff, spiny branches is also known as ‘Blackthorn’ and has long been part of our countryside, but is becoming scarcer. The creamy flowers in spring are followed by black sloes with their characteristic blue ‘bloom’ in autumn. While the sloes are incredibly astringent, they can be left for wild birds or infused with gin to make that classic winter warmer.
You can now buy five plants, supplied as bareroot, for just £9.95 or buy 15 for £23.85 and save a £6. Delivery will be within 28 days.
